Dr. Daniel Rydbeck

Biography

Daniel Rydbeck works as a colorectal surgeon in the surgical department at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. His PhD studies are affiliated with the Department of Surgery, Institute of Clinical Sciences at Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg University. He is part of the research group SSORG (Scandinavian Surgical Outcomes Research Group) and primarily focuses on colorectal cancer. His ongoing research investigates non-operative treatment approaches for rectal cancer through a national prospective multicenter study, evaluating patients who show a good response to preoperative radiotherapy under the watch-and-wait strategy. He also studies the effects of waiting time from colorectal cancer diagnosis to treatment on overall survival rates. In collaboration with pre-clinical colleagues, he is examining the immunological responses in tumor tissue to identify possible predictive markers for individual treatment responses to preoperative radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy. His clinical work emphasizes robot-assisted and transanal minimally-invasive surgical techniques for rectal cancer treatment.
