Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Daniel Schillereff. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Daniel Schillereff is a physical geographer and environmental scientist who works to quantify human-environment interactions across past, present, and future contexts. His research integrates palaeoenvironmental methods with environmental monitoring across a range of ecosystems, including lakes, rivers, and peatlands. He is currently investigating associations between environmental pollution and human health. In 2025, he took on the role of Associate Dean (Research Culture) within the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy, focusing on equity, diversity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and service. Daniel actively promotes a positive working culture and has published on the evaluation of success in academia. He became a Senior Lecturer in Physical & Environmental Geography in 2023, having previously served as a Lecturer and Teaching Fellow since 2015. Before his tenure at King's, he was a post-doctoral research associate on a NERC-funded project investigating long-term nutrient dynamics in the UK. His PhD, completed in 2014 at the University of Liverpool, centered on the historical flood records preserved in lake sediment sequences. Daniel's research encompasses geomorphology, biogeochemistry, and (paleo)environmental science, utilizing field, laboratory, and computational methods to explore interactions between humans and the environment. Current research areas include carbon and nutrient cycling in peatlands, sedimentary archives for flood frequency analysis, and the design of novel low-cost sensors for environmental monitoring.
Requirements are consistent across King's Business School and Social Science & Public Policy departments for standard Master's entries.
