Daniel Schrag is the Sturgis Hooper Professor of Geology and Environmental Science and Engineering at Harvard University, and Co-Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program. His research focuses on climate change, particularly the information derived from Earth's geologic past to aid in understanding anthropogenic climate change in the future. In addition to geochemistry and climatology, Schrag examines energy technology policy, carbon capture and storage, and low-carbon synthetic fuels. He served on President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology from 2009 to 2017. Schrag has received numerous honors, including the James B. Macelwane Medal from the American Geophysical Union and a MacArthur Fellowship. He completed his B.S. in geology and geophysics at Yale University and his Ph.D. in geology at the University of California, Berkeley. He joined Harvard in 1997, having previously taught at Princeton University.
