Biography

Daniel L. Schwartz is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Texas A&M University. His research lies at the intersection of Roman History, Religion, Digital Humanities, and Cultural Heritage Informatics, with a particular focus on literature and culture related to the Syriac language. The Syriac dialect of Aramaic flourished in the Middle East during the ninth centuries C.E. and continues to be used by communities in the Middle East and India. He is the general editor of SPEAR: Syriac Persons, Events, Relations, an online prosopographical research tool, and co-editor of the Syriac Taxonomy, a domain ontology for Syriac Studies. He has authored works such as 'Paideia Cult: Christian Initiation' and edited 'Conversion in Late Antiquity: Christianity, Islam.' His published articles and book chapters address themes in Digital History, religious conversion, and religious violence in Late Antiquity.
