Biography

Daniel Semlow is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). His research focuses on DNA replication and repair mechanisms as well as nucleic acid chemistry. The Semlow lab employs a combination of biochemical, genetic, and analytical techniques to understand how cells tolerate and repair DNA damage during replication. Furthermore, the lab develops innovative tools to identify novel forms of chemical DNA damage and elucidate the origins of these lesions. By advancing the understanding of critical DNA repair pathways, this research may provide a foundation for therapeutic interventions aimed at sensitizing cancer cells to chemotherapy and mitigating the effects of disease-causing DNA repair deficiencies.
