Biography

I am a geochemist with interests in a variety of problems related to the rock record, microbiology, and biogeochemical cycles, both present and past. My approach to scientific problems is centered on linking experiments with physically based models and natural observations in an integrated fashion. This includes developing new methods and techniques. My laboratory is focused on mass spectrometric measurements of experimental environmental samples. In addition to my role as a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, I am also a Faculty Scientist in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Area at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Prior to joining UC Berkeley in 2017, I was a postdoctoral scholar at Princeton University. I received my PhD from Caltech and my AB from Harvard College.
