Biography

Daniel Tanguay is a Professor in Philosophy at the University of Ottawa. His current research primarily focuses on three areas: first, the philosophy of history, particularly in relation to the problem of historicism and, more recently, the question of the Anthropocene; second, the liberal-oriented French political philosophy from 1975 to the present through authors such as Marcel Gauchet, Pierre Manent, and Philippe Raynaud; and finally, the thought of Leo Strauss and the reception of his work. He has supervised various seminars on critical historical figures and themes, such as Bruno Latour's thoughts on the Anthropocene and Hannah Arendt's interpretations of totalitarianism. Tanguay's scholarly contributions include various articles and book chapters that explore themes within philosophical discourse and modern democratic politics.
