Daniel Trottier is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research addresses the social impacts of new technologies in everyday life, with an emphasis on how individuals and organizations understand personal information and the dynamics of private exchanges made public. His current focus includes the use of digital media for expressing grievances and denunciations. Since joining Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2014, Daniel has received VIDI funding for the advanced study of Digital Vigilantism and has subsequently secured funding for projects examining the impacts of digitalization on social life in various domains including urban security and ethics in AI development. He has authored seven books, including three open access publications, and has published approximately sixty articles, book chapters, and encyclopedia entries. His book, 'Surveillance: Rethinking Visibility in a Converging World', published in 2012, received ten favorable reviews and was awarded the 2013 Surveillance Studies Network book prize. He has delivered sixty keynotes and invited lectures at international conferences and symposiums and supervises eight PhD researchers, serving as an examiner for seventeen PhD dissertations across multiple disciplines. Daniel teaches courses in the International Bachelor of Communication and Media program and the MA in Media Studies, and has served as thesis coordinator for the Research Master in Sociology, Culture, Media, and Arts.
