Biography

Daniel H. Weiss is a member of the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge since 2010. He previously taught at the University of Virginia and Oberlin College. Weiss earned his PhD from the University of Virginia, and he also holds a Bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a Master's in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School. His research interests encompass philosophy, religion, and ethics, with a specific emphasis on the modern period of Jewish and Christian traditions. He has published works addressing thinkers such as Wittgenstein, Levinas, Kierkegaard, and others. Weiss's research also delves into the ethics, hermeneutics, and theopolitics of biblical and classical rabbinic literature, as well as the relationships between early Christianity and classical rabbinic Judaism. Additionally, he is engaged in interreligious dialogue and serves as the Deputy Director of the Cambridge Interfaith Programme, where he co-leads the Scripture & Violence Project. He teaches various courses related to World Religions, Modern Judaism, and the intersection between Jewish and Christian thought.
