Dr. Daniel Wilson

Biography

Professor Daniel Wilson is the Director of Studies in Data Science at Oxford Lifelong Learning, University of Oxford, where he oversees the planning of the Department's course offerings in Data Science, including both award-bearing courses and online programmes. He is a Fellow at St. Cross College and leads a research group on Infectious Disease Genomics at the Big Data Institute within the Nuffield Department of Population Health. His primary research interests are in genetic risk and the evolution of pathogen populations, explored through comparative genome analysis. Wilson's work focuses on the analysis of bacterial diseases, exploring themes such as the inheritance of virulence, susceptibility factors, and the effects of transmission and natural selection on pathogen diversity. He has investigated the evolution of pathogenic populations and the dynamics of colonization and transmission among individual hosts. Wilson is open to enquiries from graduate students interested in these fields, particularly in part-time DPhil programmes offered at Oxford Continuing Education.
