Dr. Daniela Bakula

Biography

Daniela Janina Bakula is a research consultant at the University of Copenhagen, focused on addressing the increasing socioeconomic burden posed by the growing elderly population and age-associated diseases. Bakula's work explores potential interventions that could mitigate the effects of these diseases, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and cardiovascular issues. A significant aspect of her research involves understanding the implications of DNA damage that occurs with aging and its role as a contributing factor to various conditions. At the Scheibye-Knudsen lab, Bakula investigates the cellular and organismal consequences of DNA damage and seeks to develop interventions aimed at enhancing healthy aging. Recent findings suggest that the aging process and age-related diseases may be more malleable than previously thought, hinting at the possibility of intervention strategies that enable individuals to lead healthier and more productive lives throughout their lifespan. Over the past five years, Bakula has engaged in multiple collaborations to further explore these themes.
