Daniela Becker studies the (e.g. affective) experience, resolution, and consequences of conflicts in the area of self-control, motivation, and decision-making. For example, her research shows that the experience of conflict in self-control decisions is associated with lower choice confidence and negative post-choice emotions. One of her projects tests the effects related to memory processes. Over the years, she has studied self-control and has focused on the benefits of long-term goal pursuit. In her recent line of work, she demonstrates that it is indeed possible to successfully pursue hedonic goals, such as experiencing pleasure, and she currently examines typical problems associated with low self-control, including addiction and overconsumption. Daniela Becker completed her BSc in psychology at Cardiff University in 2009 and her MSc Research at the University of Amsterdam in 2011. She obtained her PhD at the University of Amsterdam in 2017, focusing on the nature of the consequences of self-control conflicts in the eating domain. She joined the Behavioural Science Institute in spring 2020 after a postdoc at the Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien in Tübingen, Germany. Her work aims to contribute to open science.
