Dr. Daniela Fabricius

Biography

Daniela Fabricius is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at the Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania. She approaches architectural history and theory through an interdisciplinary lens, focusing on the political, intellectual, and aesthetic narratives that have shaped 20th-century architecture. Her research and teaching interests delve into postwar German architecture, the politics of technology in digital design, and feminist theories of architecture. Fabricius teaches core courses in the Master of Architecture and Advanced Architectural Design programs, covering topics relevant to 19th and 20th-century architectural history as well as contemporary aesthetic theory. Her upcoming book titled 'Ethics Calculation: Architecture Rationalism Postwar Germany' examines the contradictions of rationalism within West German architectural culture from 1968 to 1989, emphasizing the complexities of assigning ethical value to rational designs in the context of evolving social and ecological challenges. In addition to her teaching duties, Fabricius advises PhD students and has previously held positions at institutions such as Pratt Institute and Cornell University. She has published extensively in notable journals and is a recognized contributor to the discourse surrounding feminist architectural theory. Fabricius is actively involved in research initiatives, including work related to the preservation of the archive of architectural theorist Jennifer Bloomer, as well as various advisory roles aimed at uncovering the connections between historical injustices and educational institutions.
