Biography

Daniela Mairhofer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics at Princeton University. A classical philologist trained in manuscript expertise, she grew up in the Tyrolean Alps of Austria and received her Ph.D. from the University of Innsbruck, graduating summa cum laude. Since joining Princeton's Classics department in September 2016, she has taught courses on Greek and Latin language and literature, including Classical, Late, Medieval, and Neo-Latin at various levels. Mairhofer's research focuses primarily on Latin language literature, with special interests in Late Medieval Latin, textual transmission, criticism, paleography, codicology, glossography, textual materiality, intellectual history, and the reception of classics in the ancient philosophy of the Latin West. She is currently working on a monograph that includes a critical edition, commentary, and translation of a Medieval Latin text, engaging with topics of textual and intellectual history. Furthermore, she has published several major works on Medieval manuscripts and has contributed to various academic volumes. At Princeton, she is the founder of the Princeton Paleography Lab (PPLab) and supervises undergraduate and graduate research on related topics in Classics and Medieval Studies.
