Daniela B S Mendonca is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She obtained her DDS from the Federal University of Uberlândia School of Dentistry in Brazil in 2001 and completed her postgraduate training in Prosthodontics in 2003, followed by an MS degree in Oral Rehabilitation in 2005. Her master's research focused on masticatory performance in edentulous patients rehabilitated with fixed mandibular implant-supported prostheses versus complete dentures. In 2010, she earned her PhD in Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology from the Catholic University of Brasilia, Brazil. Before joining the University of Michigan, she was a teaching assistant for courses in Occlusion, Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, and Dental Implants at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2008 to 2010. She also completed post-doctoral training in Bone Biology and Implant Therapy at UNC-Chapel Hill from 2010 to 2014. Currently, Professor Mendonca teaches predoctoral students in Comprehensive Care Clinics and fixed removable prosthodontics preclinical courses. Her research interests focus on improving and accelerating bone regeneration using titanium surfaces and understanding the impact of small molecules such as micro-RNAs in bone metabolic diseases like osteoporosis.
