Biography

Prof. Daniela Wilson conducts research at the interface of supramolecular chemistry, macromolecular chemistry, and nanotechnology. She focuses on designing molecules that interact to generate structures with complex behavior, emphasizing the emergence of function in complex supramolecular assemblies. Her current research emphasizes the generation of autonomous movement in synthetic motile systems, controlling motion, directionality, and collective behavior using self-assembly as a tool. Her work has made significant progress in understanding the molecular-level operating mechanisms of molecular machines, inspiring scientists to engineer synthetic structures that mimic the complexity and function of biological systems. Since 2012, she has been awarded an ERC starting grant worth 1.5 million euros and a Vidi grant in 2016 to investigate the design of nano-motors for autonomous propulsion in biomedical applications.
