Biography

Daniele Mari was born in Milan in 1961 and graduated from a scientific high school in Italy. He joined École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 1980 and graduated with a degree in Physics in 1986. In 1991, he obtained his Ph.D. focusing on metal-ceramic composites. He conducted postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1992 to 1993, specializing in shape-memory alloys. Afterward, he joined Amysa Yverdon SA in Switzerland as the Director of Research and Development, where he created advanced composite and microwave engineering activities in the field of electromagnetic heating materials science. He has supervised various research projects at EPFL in materials science and joined the Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Complexe in 2004, developing mechanical spectroscopy in hard materials and steels. He was appointed a member of the academic staff in 2012 and became the Deputy Director of the Physics School in 2013. In 2022, D. Mari was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at EPFL.
