Biography

Danielle R. Busby is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and co-founder of the Black Mental Wellness Corp. Danielle earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Washington University. She completed a pre-doctoral internship with a specialization in child trauma at Duke University Medical Center and a postdoctoral fellowship at Michigan Medicine's Department of Psychiatry. Prior to her current role, she served as the co-director of the Data Evaluation Program at the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress and held a faculty position at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Baylor College of Medicine. Her research focuses on examining barriers to mental health service use, particularly among Black youth who are at elevated risk for suicide. She has contributed to numerous scholarly articles on topics like child trauma prevention, the psychological impact of community violence, and the racial discrimination faced by Black youth. Additionally, she is the recipient of the National Institute of Mental Health's Research Supplement to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research, and she currently serves as co-Principal Investigator on projects funded by the NIMH that focus on culturally relevant risk factors for suicide among Black youth.
