Biography

Dante Amidei is a Professor at the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts Department of Physics. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, obtained in 1984, and a Bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1978. His research focuses on experimental elementary particle physics, particularly the ATLAS experiment at CERN. Amidei's work includes observing proton-proton collisions at a groundbreaking energy of 13 TeV, which is the highest controlled interaction energy ever achieved, leading to significant discoveries including the Higgs boson. He is dedicated to developing techniques that allow broader examinations of data in search of new phenomena that challenge the Standard Model of particle physics. His previous interests include the physics of the top quark, precision tracking using silicon detectors, and b-quark tagging techniques. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
