Danuta Fjellestad obtained her Ph.D. in 1986 and became a Docent in 1995. She served as Chair Professor of American Literature and Culture at Uppsala University from 2007 and was a Full Professor of American Postcolonial Studies at Blekinge Institute of Technology from 1998 to 2007. Prior to this, she was an Associate Professor at Göteborg University between 1995 and 1990, and a Research Fellow at Uppsala University from 1990 to 1995. Her main research interests focus on 20th and 21st century American fiction, particularly postmodern and post-postmodern texts, visual culture, literary theory, intellectual auto/biography, ethnic studies, new media, and electronic literature. She is also deeply interested in pedagogy and the organization of higher education. Her current scholarly work includes a book-length study titled 'Pictorial Turn Literature: Reading Fiction,' which analyzes word-image interactions in contemporary American literature. Additionally, Fjellestad has held several visiting scholar positions, including at the Center for Twentieth-Century Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Columbia University, and the University of Chicago. She has received multiple grants and scholarships from organizations such as the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems and Fulbright, and was a member of the Board of the Swedish Research Council.
