Biography

Danzhou Yang is a distinguished professor and the Martha Fred Borch Chair in the Borch Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Purdue University. His research primarily focuses on structure-based rational drug discovery, particularly in the development of anticancer agents that target DNA G-quadruplex structures. His work employs a variety of techniques including high-field NMR spectroscopy to study the interactions between small molecules and G-quadruplexes, which are critical in regulating gene expression. Over his career, Yang has published extensively on the characterization of G-quadruplex structures and their implications for developing novel therapeutic agents. His laboratory is dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie the functions of biologically relevant DNA G-quadruplexes and to advancing the design of new anticancer drugs. He has also contributed to public awareness regarding the potential of G-quadruplex-targeted therapies across various cancer types.
