Biography

Daphne Gilbert is a Full Professor in the English Common Law program at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law. With a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba, and a Master of Laws from Yale University, she has been a member of the faculty since 2000. Daphne specializes in criminal and constitutional law, teaching courses on Criminal Law Procedure and Advanced Sexual Assault Law, and has also taught Animal Law. Her research interests focus on Charter Rights and Freedoms, particularly equality rights, reproductive justice, medical assistance in dying (MAiD), and the implications of sexual violence in sports. In addition to her academic duties, she is a Vice Chair of Dying Dignity Canada and has served as the past President of Women Help Women, making significant contributions to legal and social advocacy.
