Dr. Daphne Van De Bongardt

Biography

Dr. Daphne van de Bongardt is a sociologist and pedagogical scientist, currently serving as an associate professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam's Department of Psychology, Education, and Child Studies. Her research expertise encompasses relational sexual development and health education, with a strong focus on youth, including adolescents and young adults, within various social contexts such as family, peers, partners, school, media, social norms, and culture. Van de Bongardt employs a mixed-methods approach in her research, utilizing intensive longitudinal questionnaires, life history interviews, dyadic video observations, and systematic reviews. In 2017, she received the individual Veni grant for her research project 'Lovely Sex or Sexy Love?' and founded the Erasmus Love Lab in 2021, an interdisciplinary lab dedicated to the scientific study of intimate relationships, love, and sexuality. She actively engages with media to disseminate her research findings to a broader audience through platforms like Universiteit van Nederland and TEDx. Van de Bongardt has been recognized with multiple awards for her contributions to the field, including the Erasmus University Research Award and various grants in support of her innovative research projects.
