Dr. Dapo Akande

Biography

Dapo Akande is the Chichele Professor of Public International Law and a Fellow at Souls College, Oxford. He is also the Co-Director of the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict (ELAC) and a member of the United Nations International Law Commission. Akande has held visiting professorships across Europe, Australia and at Yale Law School. Some of his notable academic contributions include authorship and co-editorship of several significant legal texts, including 'Oppenheim's International Law: United Nations,' which was awarded the 2019 Certificate of Merit by the American Society of International Law. Furthermore, he has been an influential member of the International Group of Experts who prepared the 'Tallinn Manual 2.0 on International Law Applicable to Cyber Operations' and has led numerous research projects focused on international law and ethics in armed conflict. Akande routinely offers expert advice on international law matters to states, international organizations, and NGOs, and has spoken before the UN Security Council and various academic forums. His involvement in law extends to serving on advisory panels for various global and national organizations, including humanitarian law committees.
