Biography

Daren Caruana has a robust interdisciplinary background in Biochemistry, which he studied at the University of Warwick. He completed his PhD in Electrochemistry under the supervision of Professor P.N. Bartlett at the University of Southampton. Following his education, he held various postdoctoral positions, including work at the University of Malta with Professor Joe Bannister, and at the University of Texas at Austin, where he developed enzyme-linked electrochemical oligonucleotide hybridization in the laboratory of Professor Adam Heller. Currently, he is a Professor of Physical Chemistry at University College London, where he has been a faculty member since 1999. Daren's research focuses on developing semiconductor solid-state gas sensors and measuring gaseous ozone, contributing significantly to the field of Electroanalysis. Over the years, he has progressed through several academic positions at UCL, including Reader and Senior Lecturer, and has been actively involved in advancing the chemistry department’s educational and research goals.
