Biography

Dario Brancato is a Professor at Concordia University specializing in Italian Linguistics and Classics. He obtained his PhD from the University of Toronto in 2005, where he also completed his MA in Italian Studies in 2000. His academic work focuses on Italian philology and historical linguistics, particularly the reception of classical texts from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance, as well as book history from the fourteenth to seventeenth centuries. Brancato has received several grants, including from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, for his research on various aspects of Florentine historiography and the printed culture of Renaissance Italy. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including critical editions and analyses of works by Benedetto Varchi and other Renaissance figures. His teaching interests encompass Intellectual History, Italian Medieval and Renaissance literature, Translation Studies, and Digital Humanities. He held a fellowship at the Villa Tatti at Harvard University and has explored tools in Digital Humanities to address representation in complex texts.
