Biography

Dario Floreano is the director of the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). He served as the founding director of the Swiss National Center of Competence in Robotics from 2010 to 2022, overseeing a research program that graduated over 200 PhD students and supported more than 100 postdocs. His work has contributed to the establishment of the Robotics Master's program at EPFL, the organization of the annual Swiss Robotics Day, and the launch of the Cybathlon, while also generating over 15 robotics spin-offs and creating hundreds of jobs. Floreano holds a Master of Arts in Vision, a Master of Science in Neural Computation, and a PhD in Robotics. His research interests lie at the intersection of robotics, artificial intelligence, and biological engineering, focusing on evolutionary robotics, aerial robotics, and soft robotics. Additionally, Floreano has served on numerous advisory boards and committees, including those for the Future Emerging Technologies division of the European Commission. He has authored several influential publications and books within the field including "Tales Robotics World" published by MIT Press.
