Dr. Darlene Clover

Biography

Darlene Clover is a Professor at the University of Victoria and a scholar in adult education and community leadership. Over the past decade, her research has concentrated on women’s political education and the development of artistic tools for critical adult education and community development. She conducted a cross-national comparative study of adult education philosophies and practices among librarians and public art gallery educators in Canada and the United Kingdom. Her current work examines both formal and non-formal education, creating professional development programs for educators in art galleries and museums. Clover's focus on these institutions emphasizes their role in promoting critical pedagogy and social activism. She has engaged deeply with literature surrounding arts and cultural institutions since the 1800s, contemplating the complexities of power relations and social change. Her publications often reflect on educational initiatives designed to challenge stereotypes and foster understanding, especially in politically and socially charged contexts.
