Dr. Darren Ashcroft

Biography

Professor Darren Ashcroft graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Nottingham and earned an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy from Queen's University of Belfast. He completed his PhD at Aston University. In 2002, he was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester and was later promoted to Reader in Medicines Usage Safety in 2007 and to Foundation Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology in 2010. He is the Director of the National Institute for Health Research Greater Manchester Patient Safety Translational Research Centre and holds an honorary professorship at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust and at the University of Hong Kong. With over 25 years of experience, his work focuses on improving the safety of medications and the appropriateness of prescribing in healthcare settings. He has contributed to numerous committees and provided expert advice on medication safety to various organizations, including the Department of Health and the World Health Organization. His research interests encompass medication safety, medication errors, and the development of innovative approaches to enhance patient safety through effective prescribing and adherence to treatment regimens.
