Dr. Darren Gigliozzi

Biography

Darren Gigliozzi is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Teaching Stream at the University of Waterloo's School of Optometry and Vision Science. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Science with high distinction (2010), a Master of Science (2012) from the University of Toronto, and a Doctor of Optometry (2019) from the University of Waterloo. His clinical experience spans various optometry practices in the Greater Toronto Area, where he has served as a sub-investigator for Cliantha Research, focusing on clinical trials related to ocular allergies and ocular surface disease. Dr. Gigliozzi's commitment to academic excellence is evident in his role as an adjunct clinical instructor, a position that earned him recognition as a Distinguished Clinical Instructor in 2023. He currently supervises third- and fourth-year clinical students in a primary eye care clinic, fostering a collaborative learning environment that emphasizes patient care practices. His dedication to lifelong learning drives him to continually integrate a broad knowledge of clinical research into student mentorship and clinical instruction. Dr. Gigliozzi has presented research at various conferences, including the American Academy of Optometry and the Optometry Meeting, and the Heart of America Eye Care Congress. He is actively pursuing the Fellow designation from the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), contributing to advancements in vision science and optometric education.
