Biography

Darren M. O’Byrne is a historian specializing in modern Germany, currently serving as a Research Associate and Affiliated Lecturer at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of History. He holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from University College Dublin, and received his PhD from Cambridge. Darren has held fellowships at prestigious institutions such as the Humboldt University of Berlin and the Institute of Contemporary History in Munich. He is a Fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge. His research includes editing a critical edition of the writings of Willy Meisl, an Austrian-Jewish sports journalist during the Nazi regime. Currently, he is completing two monographs: one examining the history of the upper ranks of the civil service in Nazi Germany, and another focusing on a double biography of football manager Hugo Meisl and his brother Willy. Additionally, Darren teaches modern European and German history, with a particular emphasis on the history and memory of National Socialism.
