Biography

Dr. Darrin Payne completed his medical training at the University of Western Ontario and underwent residency training in Cardiac Surgery at the London Health Sciences Center. He also obtained a Master's Degree in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University. After completing his training and passing the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada examinations in 2009, Dr. Payne completed a Fellowship at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute, focusing on aortic reconstruction and transcatheter valve therapies. He is currently an Associate Professor at Queen’s University and the Chair of the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery. In addition to his clinical interests in coronary revascularization, cardiac valve repair and replacement, and aortic repair, Dr. Payne is actively involved in medical education and research. He has served on educational committees and was the Program Director for Surgical Foundations, overseeing resident training. He is also the co-director of the Cardiac Surgical Innovation Lab (CarSIL), where he collaborates with residents and undergraduate students on various research projects.
