Biography

Darron Kelly began teaching at the Faculty of Education at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2006 and was appointed as an Assistant Professor in 2016. Originally from Yorkshire, England, he has spent years working in construction and operating a fishing charter on Granville Island, Vancouver, before returning to university to complete a B.A. in Philosophy and Classical Studies at Mount Allison University. He later earned a B.Ed. in Primary/Elementary Outdoor Education and an M.Ed. in Cultural Studies at Queen's University. Darron completed his Ph.D. in Leadership Studies at Memorial University in 2014, under the supervision of Dr. Jean Brown and Dr. Walter Okshevsky. As an award-winning, SSHRC-funded scholar, Darron examines the applications of critical social theory in educational administration, including communicative rationality, transformative leadership, and moral policymaking. His research explores the educational value of place-conscious pedagogy, encompassing teacher identity, school-community partnerships, and transformative student agency.
