Biography

David Churchill is an Associate Professor in Computer Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) in St. John's, Newfoundland. He grew up in St. Philip's, Newfoundland and completed his undergraduate studies in Pure Mathematics and Computer Science at MUN. In 2009, he earned his MSc in Computer Science from MUN, focusing on autonomous robotics and computer vision. He furthered his studies at the University of Alberta, where he completed his PhD in Computing Science with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence related to StarCraft. Churchill has a deep involvement in researching AI and computer games, with a passion for video games spanning numerous titles. He has logged countless hours playing games and enjoys teaching about video games, including game design programming and the culture and history of gaming. His main research interests lie in AI for Real-Time Strategy Games, particularly StarCraft. He organized and ran the AIIDE StarCraft AI Competition in 2011 and has been involved in developing UAlbertaBot, which won the competition in 2013.
