Biography

Dave Loder is a spatial practitioner, researcher, and educator with 12 years of experience as an award-winning interior designer in a variety of sectors including hospitality, retail, workplace, leisure, transport, education, and healthcare. He is a practicing artist with a record of exhibiting internationally, including significant platforms like the Venice Biennale and Documenta. Dave joined Edinburgh College of Art in 2024, teaching the MA Interior, Architectural & Spatial Design and BA (Hons) Interior Design programmes. His teaching encourages experimentation and supports students in embracing imagination, curiosity, and speculation. Research interests include the integration of emerging digital technologies, methodologies for hybrid approaches within design research, and a focus on practices such as 'worlding' and spatiality. His artistic research explores the aesthetics and visibility of spatial contexts, particularly in relation to critical infrastructure and the impact of surveillance capitalism. He founded the Image|Imaging|Interior research cluster at ECA and collaborates across institutions to develop new cross-disciplinary practices in design.
