Biography

Dave Poitras is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Montreal and a scientific advisor specializing in violence prevention and security promotion at the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ). He is also a regular researcher within the Intimate Partner Violence Applied Research and Interdisciplinary Team (RAIV) and a co-researcher in the Research and Action Group on Social Polarizations (RAPS). He holds a PhD from the University of Trier, Germany. His research focuses on nationalism and ethnic relations, particularly lived nationalism, social polarization, collective memory, and the intersection of economy and nationalism. In collaboration with his colleagues at the INSPQ, he works on violence prevention from a public health perspective, focusing on gender-based violence and the media's portrayal of violence and its implications for health and well-being.
