Dr. David Allen

Biography

Dr. David Allen is a tenured professor in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He also serves as the chief of Pediatric Diabetes Endocrinology and is the program director for the Pediatric Diabetes Endocrinology fellowship training program. Dr. Allen has a long history of leadership in pediatric residency training, having directed the residency program for fourteen years and chaired the Wisconsin Endocrine Newborn Screening Committee for twenty-four years. He has served on the American Board of Pediatrics sub-board for Pediatric Endocrinology for five years and is a past president of the Pediatric Endocrine Society. Notably, he has received several prestigious awards including the Parker Palmer “Courage to Teach” national award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the UW Presidential Physician Leadership Award, and the UW Clinical Educator Award. Dr. Allen's editorial contributions include serving as a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals and as an associate editor for the International Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology. His clinical interests focus on growth, puberty development disorders, and issues related to ethical treatments of these conditions. His research includes childhood adipose organ development and improving diabetes prevention programs for children.
