Biography

David Allen is a Professor of Pediatrics at the UW Comprehensive Diabetes Center, University of Wisconsin–Madison. He serves as the Chief of Pediatric Diabetes Endocrinology and is the Program Director for the Pediatric Diabetes Endocrinology Fellowship Training Program. Dr. Allen provides senior mentorship to research teams focused on exploring the relationships between cardiovascular fitness, body composition, adipose compartmentalization, and insulin resistance in children across different ethnicities. His research group has also developed a program for statewide assessment, reporting, and analysis of childhood fitness based on in-school testing methods. Over the last decade, his team has collaborated extensively with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and various state-wide agencies and communities to design, implement, and evaluate school-based interventions. Additionally, Dr. Allen mentors projects with Dr. Reeder that investigate MRI-determined site-specific adipose tissue deposition in children and its effects on insulin resistance and metabolic issues, as well as the relationships involving ethnicity and genetic factors.
