Biography

David Anderson grew up in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and attended the University of Virginia for his bachelor’s degree. He completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Duke University, with co-advisors Mike Reed and Jonathan Mattingly. He arrived in Madison for a postdoc in January 2007 and became a permanent member of the mathematics faculty in Fall 2009. In 2018, Anderson was appointed as a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor. His research lies at the intersection of mathematics, chemistry, and biology, particularly focusing on stochastic processes. He works on theoretical problems related to the qualitative behavior of models and the design and analysis of algorithms for stochastic models found in biology.
