Dr. David Bailey

Biography

David N. Bailey, M.D., is a distinguished professor emeritus at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research has centered on analytical methodologies for measuring drugs and their metabolites, understanding drug binding to human tissues, and exploring drug absorption, particularly psychotropic drugs and substances of abuse. He has contributed significantly to the field through his extensive work on drug binding profiles and absorption characteristics. Bailey has earned numerous accolades throughout his career, such as the Gerald Evans Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service. He served as chair of the Department of Pathology at UCSD and held key administrative roles within the university's health sciences division. His notable publications include studies on the interactions of antidepressants and cholestyramine as well as comprehensive reviews of cocaethylene and cocaine binding in human tissues. He has also focused on issues facing academic pathology departments, reflected in his series of articles published in the Academic Pathology journal. Throughout his career, Bailey has demonstrated leadership not only in academics but also in various professional organizations related to clinical laboratory medicine and toxicology.
