Biography

Dave Banks is a hydrogeologist and environmental geochemist with 35 years of experience across the water industry, geological survey, academia, and humanitarian aid consultancy sectors. He began his career as a field hydrogeologist with Thames Water and the Natural Rivers Authority, before moving to Norway to take a post with the Geological Survey of Norway, eventually becoming section leader in hydrogeology and geochemistry. Returning to the UK in 1998, Dave became an active consultant and founded his own company, Holymoor Consultancy Ltd., which he has been running successfully. In recent years, he has developed an increasing interest in using groundwater as a source and sink for heat. He has been actively involved in the UK's ground source heat industry since the late 1990s, contributing to the foundations of thermogeology in the UK. Additionally, Dave is a member of emergency preparedness rosters for Norwegian Church Aid and has assisted in planning and delivery in the humanitarian aid WASH sector since 1997. His work has spanned international projects across varied locations such as Svalbard, Somalia, Nepal, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bolivia, and Huddersfield. Currently, he holds a position as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow which he has held since 2012.
