Biography

David Beard is a Professor of Musculoskeletal Surgical Science at the University of Oxford, within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS). He serves as the Director of the Surgical Intervention Trials Unit (SITU) and is a Senior Investigator with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). His academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Biomedical Science (Research Methodology) from King's College London and a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Oxford. His research interests focus on surgical clinical trials methodology, evaluating various musculoskeletal interventions, and exploring topics such as robotic surgery in knee, hip, spine, hand, and shoulder surgery, as well as work related to long-duration space flight. Beard has held senior academic posts both in the UK and Australia and has received honorary Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Orthopaedic Association. He is also actively involved in supervising PhD, DPhil, and Master of Science students.
