Dr. David Birchall

Biography

David Birchall is a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University specializing in business-related human rights issues, with a focus on socio-economic rights and the marketization of basic needs. His current research delves into the role of constitutive business law in affecting access to socio-economic rights, and he aims to broaden the understanding of the purpose and aims of business law, particularly concerning climate litigation and human rights due diligence laws. Birchall has published extensively in the field of business and human rights, contributing to notable journals such as the International Comparative Law Quarterly, Business and Human Rights Journal, and the University of California Law Business Journal. He is also a co-editor of the forthcoming second edition of the Edward Elgar Research Handbook on Human Rights and Business, and co-edits a Springer book series on Business, Human Rights, and Environment.
