Professor David Black spent years moving between Ontario and Nova Scotia. Growing up in Downsview, a multicultural working-class suburban area of Toronto, he was fortunate to live amidst rapidly changing ethnic communities. During his undergraduate years, he attended Trent University and obtained his B.A., before heading east to Halifax to pursue his M.A. at Dalhousie University. He completed his Ph.D. at Dalhousie and later returned to Ontario for a SSHRC Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Queen’s University. Professor Black's research interests focus on Canada’s role in development cooperation in Sub-Saharan Africa, including aspects such as human security, diplomacy, and the extractive sector. Additionally, he has published work on human rights and foreign policies in post-apartheid South Africa. He teaches a third-year course on Sport Politics, which reflects on the intersection of sport and politics, engaging students with critical global issues.
