Biography

David Borton received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 2006 and his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Brown University in 2012. He was awarded the Marie Curie International Fellowship for his research on brain-spinal interfaces at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, under the direction of Gregoire Courtine. An Associate Professor at Brown University, he leads an interdisciplinary team focused on the design, development, and implementation of novel neural interfaces to understand the basic science and functional applications of neuromotor diseases. His laboratory engages engineers, neuroscientists, mathematicians, and clinicians to create and apply state-of-the-art neural and biochemical sensors for studying neuromotor diseases in relevant animal models. His research goals include characterizing neuromotor activity during complex motor behaviors in non-human primates and developing analytical methods for quantifying neuromotor diseases.
