I joined the University of Fribourg in 2017. My doctoral thesis, which I defended in May 2011, focuses on the social production of insecurity and mistrust in Eritrea within a context of militarization. Subsequently, I conducted research among Eritrean deserters who joined Europe and North America to account for the political and social dynamics that promote and limit their mobilizations against the ruling regime in their country, as well as affecting the communities in exile. For the past few years, I have been developing a new research project that has led me to work on initiatives aimed at combating mass digital surveillance before delving into political controversies related to cryptography and cybersecurity.
