Professor David J. Brennan joined the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto in 2007 and currently serves as the Associate Dean, Research. He is the founding director of CRUISElab, an interdisciplinary, community-based social work research lab dedicated to addressing the sexual, mental, physical, and emotional health of gay, bisexual, two-spirit, and transgender men. Since 1983, Brennan has been directly involved in the HIV epidemic through various social work roles, including case manager, clinical supervisor, psychotherapist, program manager, and researcher. His research primarily focuses on the HIV and STI risk resiliencies of gay, bisexual, and two-spirit men, investigating how marginalized identities affect access to health and social service information. Brennan's studies include resilience among gay and bisexual men living with long-term HIV, the intersection of racism and body image among racialized communities, and the psychosocial factors affecting aging individuals living with HIV. He was previously awarded the Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN) Research Chair, and he currently holds the OHTN Endgame Leadership Chair in Gay and Bisexual Men’s Health. Brennan has been recognized with the Excellence in Research Award from the Canadian Association for HIV/AIDS Research and has received funding from several prestigious organizations for his work.
