Biography

David Bull holds the Chair in Signal Processing at the University of Bristol and is the Director of the £46 million MyWorld Strength Places Programme. He is currently the Director of the Bristol Vision Institute, a cross-disciplinary organization hosting 160 researchers dedicated to various aspects of vision science and engineering. David also leads the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Communications and Creative Technologies. His research focuses on visual communications and computer vision. He has won numerous awards and has published over 500 papers and patents, many of which are commercially exploited. His current activities are concentrated on optimizing video compression for internet streaming and broadcast applications, as well as enhancing workflows in media production. His research has garnered significant support from international industry, governments, and charities, generating £40 million in research income over the past 10 years. David has delivered numerous invited and keynote lectures and is the author of the forthcoming book 'Intelligent Image and Video Compression'. He is a fellow of the IET and IEEE and has served on several advisory committees.
