Biography

David Burrows is an artist and writer based at the Slade School of Fine Art at University College London, where he is a Professor and Head of Undergraduate Fine Art Media. He graduated from Goldsmiths College in 1994 and has since established a significant presence in contemporary art, marked by a practice that often interweaves notions of the avant-garde and mass media cultures. His work critically addresses themes including impermanence, the transformative processes of fiction, and the complex relationships between art and popular culture. Through collaborations such as Plastique Fantastique, Burrows explores participatory art practices that engage with contemporary socio-political issues. He has exhibited extensively across the UK and internationally, showcasing at notable venues such as the Royal Academy of Arts in London and the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. In addition to his artistic practice, Burrows has contributed significantly to art writing, publishing essays and edited volumes addressing the intersections of art, culture, and politics.
