Dr. David Carlson

Biography

David Carlson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Duke University, where he focuses on the development of novel machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to advance scientific discovery. His research includes applying fundamental theories and algorithms to environmental health, mental health, and neuroscience. Carlson has built extensive partnerships to deploy machine learning methods across diverse fields, amplifying the impact of data science on public health and environmental challenges. He obtained his Ph.D. from Duke University in 2015 and has held several key academic positions across multiple departments, including Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science. Carlson teaches courses that bridge statistical methods with computational applications in engineering and science.
